Alpha Version 1.0.22

Android 17 · iOS 22 Latest

Changes since the previous build (Android 16 / iOS 21).

This is a big release; the heart of the game changed. Every fight is turn-based now and played out in front of you. The Skill Tree became real and feeds into combat. Attributes were rebuilt, and Dexterity is gone. You can watch your hero’s journey while a quest runs. The home screen and the social screens were redone. Your phone knows you now, too: the game opens through Game Center or Play Games on its own. The list is long; the part we need most is “What we would like you to look at” at the very end.

Every fight is turn-based now

The dungeon, quest bosses, the wardens in the realms, the Arena and revenge, friendly duels, guild war: all of them on the same new battle screen.

  • One move per turn: one of the four skills in your Loadout; if none can be used, a plain strike. The Warrior gains Energy by landing plain strikes and by taking hits. The Mage’s Mana fills on its own every turn. Powerful skills rest for a few turns after being used.
  • AUTO starts on and each turn uses the first skill in the Loadout that is ready and affordable. Turn AUTO off and you pick the move yourself. You have 20 seconds per turn; if it runs out, the game picks for you. Your AUTO preference carries into later fights.
  • The fighters are drawn as black silhouettes. The silhouette of your own weapon is in your hand. Each of the 14 active skills has its own animation. Bleed and Burn show on the body. On screen there are health, Energy and Mana bars, the buffs, and the four skill slots.
  • The Warrior strikes with Strength, the Mage with Intelligence. The Mage’s plain strike throws a bolt of magic from range. The opening spell from the old combat is gone.
  • Passive skills work in combat. Scent of Blood, Red Mist, Deep Wounds, Embers, Ember Heart and the rest all affect the fight. Their descriptions now say correctly what they do.
  • Your phone plays the fight, the server decides the result. The server replays the same fight with your choices and hands out the reward. A fight you have started cannot be backed out of. If the game closes mid-fight, returning within five minutes replays it from the start; return later and it counts as played on AUTO.
  • If you put no skills in the Loadout you only make plain strikes: only the skills in the Loadout enter the fight. When you are attacked in the Arena you fight with your own Loadout order as well.
  • Still missing: everyone is drawn with the same silhouette in combat. There is no female silhouette, and armour does not show; only the weapon and the shield or tome do. Bosses also appear as a human silhouette and use the shared boss skills.

The Skill Tree and the Loadout

The tree in the previous build was a trial and saved nothing. Every skill and rank you learn is now saved and used in combat.

  • From level 5, a skill point every five levels. The points for your current level are waiting for you. If you have unspent points, a red dot lights up on the Skill Tree button on the home screen. On a level that earns a point, the level card says “+1 Skill Point”.
  • For now each class has one path: Berserker for the Warrior, Fire for the Mage. Juggernaut and Frost come later. Only your own class shows in the tree.
  • The tree got a new look. The branch you did not take is faded, and energy flows through the branches you learned.
  • Where the path forks you can learn only one of the two skills. Resetting is free for now. A reset returns all your points and empties the Loadout.
  • The Loadout tab has four slots and their order matters. Each turn uses the skill in the first slot that is ready and affordable. Tap a skill and it lands in the first empty slot. Press and drag to drop it in the slot you want. Drag between two slots and the skills swap. Drop it outside the slots and the skill comes out. Passive skills need no slot; they are always on.

Attributes were rebuilt

  • Dexterity is gone. There are three main attributes now: Strength, Intelligence and Constitution. Each class fights with its own main attribute and Constitution.
  • Items now give a main attribute. Plate, swords and shields give Strength and Constitution. Cloth, staves and tomes give Intelligence and Constitution. Jewellery gives all three, but only your own main attribute and Constitution do anything. An attribute that does nothing for you shows grey on the item card.
  • Four new secondary attributes come from item affixes and socket stones. Each of the four has its own icon:
    • Critical Strike: the chance for a blow to hit 50% harder. That chance, together with what the First Light adds, can be at most 50%.
    • Haste: the chance for each blow to land once more at half strength.
    • Mastery: raises the damage of your skills, your Bleeds and your Burns. It is called Weaponmaster on the Warrior and Archmage on the Mage.
    • Versatility: raises the damage you deal and reduces the damage you take by half as much.
  • Your items stay as they are. The names and prices of affixes and stones did not change, they simply give the new attributes now. The one difference: three of the affixes that give Critical Strike were renamed; of the Bear, of the Giant and of the Titan are now of the Viper, of the Scorpion and of the Executioner. Every socket stone now gives a secondary attribute.
  • In the Attributes tab you can now only raise your main attribute and Constitution. Secondary attributes show as percentages.
  • Agility Flasks are now Life Flasks: they raise your health. The other sources of Dexterity changed too: among the mount abilities, Eagle Eye now raises your main attribute, and Numbing Chill lowers the enemy’s Constitution. The Rune of Ambition at the Lightforge raises all four secondary attributes.
  • The power you see on screen is now your power in the fight. Whoever has the higher power usually wins. Power is on the same scale as the ⚔ in the dungeon: your power is close to the ⚔ of the floor you can beat about half the time. That is why your power number changed; for most of you it went down. Flasks and realm blessings do not change this number. The gold you earn is unchanged.
  • In guild war, when no real opposing guild can be found, the opponent you face is now roughly your equal; before, it was usually too strong.
  • Worth knowing: points you put into Dexterity or into the other class’s main attribute no longer count in any fight.

The adventure can be watched now

While a quest runs, a scene plays under the progress bar.

  • Your hero advances with their own weapons and cuts down the skeleton warriors in their way. Skeleton mages hang back and cast. Every few minutes a powerful creature appears: there are 14 of them, from wolf to scorpion, golem to orc. The powerful creature’s name and health bar show at the top of the screen.
  • On quests with a boss, the boss arrives in the last 20 seconds and waits in front of your hero. Pressing FACE THE BOSS starts the real fight. Pressing FINISH NOW plays the end of the scene.
  • The scene is only a show. It does not change the quest’s duration, its reward or the outcome of the fight. It stops when you leave the screen or the game goes to the background; when you come back it carries on from where the quest is. On very small screens, if the scene does not fit it is not shown at all.
  • Not finished yet: the boss waiting at the end is not the same as the opponent in the fight that FACE THE BOSS starts. And we have not yet measured the scene on low-end Android phones.

The home screen and Social

  • The big hero card is gone. In its place there is a player strip in the top bar. The strip carries your champion’s face, the level badge under it, your name, the Lightbearer mark if you subscribe, and the experience bar. Touch the strip and your profile opens. On narrow screens the strip narrows itself so the gold and Valor Stone readouts are not pushed off screen.
  • Under the strip your Arena rank and your power show. If you have an Arena shield, its remaining time shows too. Armour and the Arena score (the cup) are no longer on the home screen.
  • The Mailbox and Friends merged into one screen called Social. There are two tabs at the top. The old Friends button to the left of the home screen (now Social), the Social post in the village, letter notifications and the mail button on other tabs all open Social on the Mailbox tab. The unread-letter dot shows on this Social button.
  • Sending a friend request now requires level 5. Requests that come in you can accept or decline at any level. Below level 5, player windows say “ADD FRIENDS AT LEVEL 5”.

Sign-in and account

  • Your phone knows you. The game opens without a sign-in screen, through Game Center on iPhone and Play Games on Android. If you already have an account in the game, the first time you open this build your phone’s Game Center / Play Games account is linked to it (as long as it is not linked to another Valerion account).
  • On a new phone the “Welcome to Valerion” screen appears. Press PLAY and a new account is created. Press I HAVE AN ACCOUNT and you sign in with Google, email or (on iPhone) Apple, and from then on the phone always opens that account.
  • In Profile → Account, Google, Apple (iPhone only) and Email are on separate rows. The first time you link each one you earn 25 Valor Stones, so 75 at most. The reward for accounts you linked earlier is granted when you open Profile. For the email reward you need to verify your address and set a password.
  • Use Logout to switch to another account. After logging out the game will not put you back into the old account on its own. If your account only opens through Game Center or Play Games, the game warns you before logging out: that account will open again when you close and reopen the game. Apple sign-in is not available on Android; if you are thinking of moving from iPhone to Android, link your email as well.
  • Guild leaders with members can now delete their accounts. Leadership passes to the Elder who joined the guild first; if there is no Elder, to the first member who joined. Accounts that open only through Game Center or Play Games can also be deleted from Profile.

Guild

  • The guild tab’s icon was fixed. It now shows the guild’s crowned shield instead of the merchant’s purse.
  • Chat was rebuilt. With the chat tab open, messages arrive instantly. Someone who leaves or is removed from the guild cannot see messages written afterwards.
  • Flood protection: send 6 messages within 15 seconds and you cannot write for 30 seconds. The remaining time shows on screen and the text you wrote is not cleared. You cannot send the same message twice within a minute. There must be at least one second between two messages.
  • Gift Valor Stones cannot be deposited to the guild. The welcome gift and the account-linking rewards are yours to spend. The deposit window shows how much you can deposit to the guild.

Champion

  • The female Mage now wears her cloth, and holds her staff and tome. These pieces did not show at all before.
  • With a circlet on, the female champion no longer looks bald: her hair and ears are in place and the circlet sits on top of the hair. The male champion’s ears now show with a circlet too. A plate helmet still covers the hair as before. The tome is now really held in the hand; the fingers grip its edge.

The Elder’s tour and tips

  • The tour went from 10 steps to 15. New players are now also shown the village, the Skill Tree, the Blacksmith, the Barber, Social, the Arena and the Guild.
  • On Android 14 and earlier the tour’s highlights appeared slightly above where they should. That is fixed. The highlights on the bottom tabs are exactly in place now too.
  • There are new tips that teach the skills: two in the Skill Tree, one in the Loadout, and two in your first fight. The first fight does not start until the Elder has finished speaking. Stale text was corrected too: cooldowns are now written in turns rather than seconds.

Behind the scenes

  • The leaderboards now update once a minute. Your own rank is always current, both on the home screen and in the table. A few operations that will strain the server as the player count grows were lightened as well. You should not see a difference from any of this; if you see something odd, write to us.

What we would like you to look at

  1. Turn-based combat: play a few fights on AUTO and a few by hand. Is it smooth and clear? Are 20 seconds enough? Does the result match what you saw in the fight? Which phone are you using?
  2. Loadout: drag skills into the slots, move them around, take one out. Does a skill land in the wrong place or disappear? Is that order used in the next fight?
  3. Sign-in: did the game recognise you automatically, or did a sign-in screen appear? On Android, Play Games works only with the Google accounts on the test list for now. If it does not work for you, send us your Google account.
  4. Linking accounts: link Google, Apple or your email from Profile. Did the 25 Valor Stones arrive? Did the email code reach you, was the password saved?
  5. Switching accounts: log out, sign in with another account, then come back to your own. Did the game put you into an account you did not want?
  6. Social: move between the two tabs. Is the unread-letter dot right? When you enter from a notification or from the post in the village, does the right page open?
  7. Guild chat (with two phones): write to each other. Do messages arrive instantly? After leaving the chat and coming back, are the messages you missed there? Send messages in rapid succession: does the waiting time appear, does your text disappear?
  8. The adventure scene: watch a quest for a few minutes. Is it smooth, does the phone heat up? Does the boss arrive in the last 20 seconds? Does the fight start cleanly when you press FACE THE BOSS? What happens when you press FINISH NOW? Which phone?
  9. The player strip: especially on small screens, are the level badge, the name and the experience bar comfortable to read? Are the gold and Valor Stone readouts cut off?
  10. Attributes, power and looks: do the secondary percentages, the grey attributes or your new power number make sense to you? Is anything missing or wrong on the female Mage’s clothes, staff or tome, or in the hair with a circlet on?
